I know that you are sitting there wondering to yourself "Fondue, Carrie? Isn't that going to be expensive?" Well dear reader, it won't be, because I am going to give you the recipe to this lovely (and romantic) convection and tell you to go make it yourself!
Now, don't freak. The recipe looks super easy, which is the reason I picked it. Everything else looked complicated and fondue gives you the added element of licking your fingers (and possibly your significant other's fingers as well) which is sexy, in a messy sort of way. If you want to look at the whole article, just click on the picture. It will take you to the Joy of Baking website, a site that I think I might be returning to in the future because, honestly, looking at the picture for the Valentine's dessert made me drool all over my desk (and I'm really not kidding).
So here is what you will need to have on hand to make yourself some sexy fondue:
- 6 ounces (170 grams) of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup (120 grams) of heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) of milk
- 2 1/2 tablespoons (35 grams) of granulated white sugar
- 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon of pure Vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup Nutella (this is optional in the recipe, but I would recommend keeping some in the house anyway because it makes your morning toast the highlight of your day - no joke)
- 1 tablespoon Frangelico or other liqeurs such as Grand Marnier or brandy
- Place the chopped chocolate in a medium sized stainless steel bowl and set aside.
- Combine the cream, milk, sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan and place over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil, stirring often.
- Remove from heat and pour immediately over the chocolate.
- Let stand until the chocolate has melted, then whisk until smooth.
- Whisk in vanilla extract, Nutella (if using), and alcohol.
- Place the chocolate sauce in a fondue pot (or a small dish, you don't need a fondue pot) and serve with fresh fruits, chunks of pound, butter, sponge, or angel food cake and cookies (amaretti, ladyfingers, rolled wafer cookies, or biscotti).
- Reheat the sauce if it becomes too thick.
This is what I am planning on making for my all single girlfriend's Valentine's Dinner party, or as we like to call it, "The Day We Get Together to Eat Too Much and Wallow In Self Pity" party. I think it's going to be GREAT. I hope that you V-day is just as special as I think mine is going to be ... How did your fondue turn out?
